The Senior Scientist serves as a technical contributor and source of advanced knowledge in principles, concepts and theory related to product and/or process development. 
The position accountabilities include identifying, documenting and validating the appropriate ingredients, formulations and unit processes that meet product standards and requirements, including product costs, quality, safety and uniformity.
As a Sr. Scientist, this position will oversee the powder blending technologies at HIM-WS and Herbalife contract manufacturers in America’s central and east coast. 
The Senior Scientist is a key position in R&D and must inspire and energize employees through advanced technical knowledge, personal leadership, influence, thorough planning and drive for timely and appropriate results. 
  • Develops new or improves existing formulations through a combination of discussions, ‘paper’ formulations, bench and field work, either alone or with the assistance of junior staff.
  • Complete development reports for feasibility and process evaluation studies, pilot trials, and product development summaries. Actively participate in R&D Technical Review meetings, making presentations for projects at key development milestones.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and processes, execute product experiments, and effectively summarize results.
  • Create robust technical plans and timelines
  • Collaborates with Marketing, Sourcing, Quality, Licensing and Scientific Affairs in project teams and provides leadership in other business areas as well.
  • Provide technical expertise in food products and powders technology as appropriate to guide and advance product and/or process development.
  • Implements projects in technology towards successful completion.
  • Predicts outcomes and solves problems in a practical, timely and collaborative manner.
  • May give talks or seminars at academic and industry events.
  • Coaches and mentors other junior scientists.
  • Work affects portfolio performance of powder products.
None. However, directs activities of contract manufacturing sites as required to complete project activities.
  • Thorough knowledge of food science and process technology, pharmacy, chemistry and/or chemical engineering. 
  • Ability to lead effectively and concurrently on multiple projects in a goal-oriented, timeline-driven, and dynamic work environment while ensuring quality and accuracy. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally and effectively with peers, management, and leadership both within and outside the Company. Sensibility to diversity.
  • Proven technical writing proficiency to write and review technical documentation (batch records, SOPs, protocols and reports, IQ/OQ/PQ testing and other technical reports and presentations). 
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication and presentation skills on technical and non-technical topics. 
  • Collaborate with peers in a team that values open learning, technical curiosity, and supports development, sharing, and testing of new ideas.
  • Broad knowledge of development and manufacturing procedures gained through education and experience. Demonstrated and applied knowledge of food manufacturing equipment, especially with respect to equipment and processes used to blend powders.

  • 8 years’ experience in formulation, process scale up and in solving technical problems at a food (preferably powders) industry.
  • Has achieved positive results and adding recognized and quantitative corporate value.
  • Is recognized as a strong technical contributor in his/her area of expertise.
  • Successful track record of completing development tasks
  • Business process orientation including adherence to New Product Process, testing protocols and appropriate Product Lifecycle Management (e.g. Agile) and laboratory notebook documentation.
  • Competent use of MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience in working in a GMP environment.
  • Experience base in functional areas that interact with R&D such as QA, QC, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain.



  • B.S. in Food Science, Pharmacy, chemistry and/or chemical engineering or equivalent



  • PhD or relevant academic specialization in the Food Science world.
